Message From MBS Director
The secular marketing realm is not the only place where people are preoccupied with outcomes. As Christians in ministry, we often ask ourselves the question “What will be the outcome” of our decisions. We weigh the costs against the anticipated results; this deliberation lends itself toward good stewardship. Yet we recognize that God is in charge of outcomes, we must only be faithful to make God’s Word available and keep our passion for it burning. The Maryland Bible Society has been practicing good stewardship of its resources and time in accordance with the work of the Holy Spirit to “ignite fresh passion” for God’s Word. The following reflections for the year 2013 are His outcomes.
This year we have come alongside children, youth, churches and workplace ministries with the truth of God’s Word. We have worked in partnership with organizations such as Child Evangelism Fellowship, Christian Business Mens Connection, Christian Professional Network, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and IC Orphans. Rejecting society’s push to “reinvent the wheel”, we have instead been urging the church to go back to its roots. Truth may be put on trial, but God’s Word never outgrows the culture.
We are grateful to have found a niche in the workplace, supporting the Christian Professional Network (CPN) and Christian Business Mens Connection (CBMC) as they interact daily with people who do not know the love of Jesus. Our invitation to speak at the CPN Business Conference gave us the chance to build expectancy amongst the group for the move of the Holy Spirit by sharing a story about our Historic Collection. For more details, read the enclosed article “MBS Archivist Address Conference.”
As we have been plowing the soil for younger generations, the seed of God’s Word has been falling on open hearts. It has been a privilege to partner with front line ministries such as Beachmont Christian Camp, as they have touched the lives of 1,700 children and youth with the Word of God. We participated in a retreat with Youth For Christ, witnessing hundreds of youth receive their first Bibles, many giving their lives to Jesus for the first time. A grant provided to one of our newest partners, IC Orphans, helped launch a children’s Bible project that has helped churches share the gospel with hundreds of orphans not only in the US, but also El Salvador, Ethiopia, China, Colombia and India. We will not say of this younger generation as Judges 2:10 that “…another generation grew up who knew neither the Lord nor what He had done for Israel,” but instead we will continue to put our hands to the plow. Praise God.
Looking ahead, we will be asking: “What will happen when…
- Fathers, mothers, sons and daughters
- Youth, students, employees and CEO’s
- Coaches teachers, leaders and communities dig deeper into the Word of God? We know the outcome because God’s Word tells us in Romans 12:2 that lives will be transformed.
My hope in sharing these testimonies is that a fresh passion will ignite within your heart for the Word of God. I encourage you to fall deeper in love with the Bible and the author of it. If you have experienced its power, will you consider making a donation? We are in urgent need of your support as we look to the New Year, anticipating the lives that will be transformed by the Word of God in 2014.
